Sheriff honoured at Rockley
Current and past members of Rockley Golf & Country Club turned out in their numbers to honour retiring Greenskeeper Seymour “Sheriff” King last weekend.
The event, a four ball Scramble, was aimed at raising money as a send-off for King, who has been associated with the island’s oldest golf course for just over half a century.
All competition fees, green fees as well as private donations were presented to King at a brief ceremony in his honour.
The successful occasion was fully subscribed, which bore testimony to the high esteem with which Sheriff is held.
After what proved a very competitive event the quartet of Kevin Tryhane, Kim Toppin, Pat Toppin and Harold Tryhane, won with a score of 43.5 points.
Second were Ian Dowding, Anthony Kirton, Victor Forde and Ken Branker with 46 points.
Plans are under way for the 80th Anniversary celebrations which include a series of tournaments set for the first weekend of October.
