Proverbs is junior Caribbean champion
Simon Proverbs captured the 16 - 17 years boy's title at the just-ended Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships in Jamaica.
Competing in a 21-member field of top Caribbean juniors Proverbs won by eight strokes from Ernesto Vetienes of the Dominican Republic.
The Barbados team captain shot 222 over the three days with level par on the second and third days. He won the James Moss-Solomon trophy for his feat. Robert Grant of Jamaica was third.
The victory will most likely be a filip for Proverbs who will be representing Barbados in his second successive Hoerman Cup tournament in the Turks and Caicos Islands next month.
Other members of the Barbados team were Dane Da Silva (16 - 17 boys), Warren Bynoe and
James Pritchard (14 - 15 years boys), Donald Leacock and Joseph Ince (13 years and under boys), Sabrina Smith (14 - 15 girls) and Shannon Gibson (13 years and under girls).
The team officials were Richard Proverbs and Denny Foster.
