Barbados won the Mid Amateurs title at the just-ended Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in the Cayman Islands.
Charles Edey, forced to come in as a late replacement, and Billy Tempro won the Mid Amateurs championship by one stroke from the competitive Dominican Republic team of Juan Campusano and Miguel Ferris. Edey, the team manager, and Tempro compiled a score of 270 over the four days at the North Sound Club in Grand Cayman.

Edey came into the team after Scott Foster was promoted to the Hoerman Cup team following the late withdrawal of  James Johnson. Johnson returned home to deal with an emergency.
The Barbadian pair of Edey and Tempro put together their best round of 66 on the penultimate day Friday, which was three shots better than their opponents and enhanced their challenge. Edey never had a practice round since his intended role was that of team manager.
There was disappointment in the Seniors category where defending champions Ricky Skeete and Robert Piggott were disqualified on a technicality.

Skeete damaged his putter, which altered the characteristics of the club, and the team was consequently disqualified.
The pair were in contention for second place after being beaten by five shots by the victorious Puerto Rican combination of Luis de la Haba and Jesus “Susin” Velez.

Skeete and Piggott finished with a tally of 279 (70, 66, 70, 73) on Saturday.
The Hoerman Cup team and the women both placed sixth while the Super Seniors team was eighth.
Among their top performers in the Hoerman Cup team were newcomers Marcus Clarke and 15 year-old Simon Proverbs, while Julian Jordan was the second best player.

Clarke led the way with 247 over the four days which included a superb 67 on Friday. Proverbs, not only justified his selection but played better than some of his experienced colleagues, with a second-day level par being his best showing.
Lynn deCambra McCleod was the leading Barbadian female with 74 her best round in a score of 317..
