Tournament favourite Camilio BENEDETTI, Columbia struggled on the first day with a 77, 5 over par and so did Dominican Republic golfer Ernesto VITIENES who shot 78, 6 over par. Vitienes was second in the 2014 CAGC tournament in August this year where Johnson ended up on 9th place.
Barbados golfer James Johnson lay 6th after the first day round of golf in Veracruz, Mexico. A solid score of 73, one over par leaves him 7 shots from the lead and 5 shots from the bronze medal. First day leader is José de Jesús RODRIGUEZ, Mexico who scored a 66, 6 under par during first days windy conditions.
