Xzavier had a rock solid round despite two strange rules sitations one of which resulted in a penalty. I think it's important to mention in both cases he called the officials over himself meanwhile his playing partners were unaware of what occured. Xzavier's actions exemplify the spirit of the game and is an example of the type of values golf can teach young men and women.
Xzavier showed great maturity and was not rattled instead putting his head down and posting 80 which was good enough to edge out his playing partner Demar James of Antigua and Zico Correia of Trinidad for 3rd place in the 11-13 Boys.
Joshua posted 86 for the second day in a row which I believe is a very commendable effort. This was Josh' debut representing Barbados and his first trip to any course outside of Barbados. He fought his swing the whole week but was able to think his way around the course and manage his game to finish respectably in the middle of the pack.
Christian unfortunately didn't keep up his fine play from the Day 2 and slipped to an 88. I think the experience will do Chrsitian and provide a yard stick for him to see where he must improve going forward. He has a great enthusiasm for the game and once he continues to learn and improve at the rate he is already I believe he has a bright future in Caribbean junior golf.
Iz broke 80 for the second time in the event posting 79 despite leaking some oil down the finishing stretch. Iz started the day chasing home favourite Ryan Peters who was unflappable shooting 1 under on the outward nine. This put Iz in a position where he needed to make up shots on a layout which rewards conservative play. Ryan hung tough the back nine and despite Iz's efforts to make up shots the course did not yield any birdies. Regardless, he finished 2nd six shots behind Ryan and posted the best 3 round total of all our juniors.
All in all it was a great week and definitely one we should all take encouragement. I think the boys have seen that they compete at the highest level of junior golf in the Caribbean and I am very excited for the CAJGC in St. Croix in July.
