Bajans perform well in junior Caribbean golf

Barbados picked up two second places and a third at the Caribbean junior golf tournament at Moka, Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday.
Despite the cancellation of the back nine due to inclement weather Simon Proverbs improved on Wednesday’s second place with another display of fine form.

He was second in the boy’s 14 to 16 years category with an excellent two under on the nine holes played. Proverbs finished with 186, three shots better than Ernesto Vitienes of the Dominican Republic.
The winner, Puerto Rican Jose Rodrigues, closed the three-day tournament with 185 shots, one more than Proverbs.

Serena Smith maintained her second place throughout to end on 49 Thursday for 222 overall in the girl’s 13 years and under division. Maria Torres of Puerto Rico was a convincing winner with 197.

Mary Ince, who was second on the first and second day, ended third in the girl’s 16 to 17 years division. She had a score of 44 Thursday for 212 overall, which allowed Puerto Rican Andrea Rosado to earn second place with a superb 39.
