Johnson wins inaugural BGA Cup
James Johnson, who is again leading Barbados' Hoerman Cup charge at next month's Caribbean amateur golf championships, is the winner of the inaugural BGA Cup.
Johnson produced 67 at the Barbados Golf Club course, the same final day score in the recent Beacon Insurance Barbadps Open, which decidedly gave him the title.
Sean Edey and Marcus Clarke also used the occasion to warm-up for the regional tournament, with second and third place scores of 69 and 70 respectively, while another Barbados player Judd Cozier was beaten by Clarke on the countback.
The BGA's Honorary Secretary, Trenton Weekes, won the first Nett prize, enjoying a run of form and wins with limited practice.
Simon Proverbs, another Barbados player, scored 72 or even par, to win the Junior boy's prize. This followed his recent win in his 16 years age group at the Caribbean junior amateur championships in Jamaica.
ESSO Barbados was the main contributor to the prizes, with support from Colombian Emeralds International, and Peter Howard who donated the closest to the pin prize.
In a competitive Nett competition Weekes won with 64, Andrew Guilfoyle was second with 65 and Kim Campbell showed she is ready to take on the men with a third place 66.
Julia Stephenson won the prize for the best lady while Trevor Tasker, the new manager of the Barbados team, won the closest to the pin prize for men.
