Briton Marcus Clarke Simon Proverbs

Teenager Proverbs for Hoerman golf debut
By Hallam Hope

Teenager Simon Proverbs and Briton Marcus Clarke will debut for Barbados at next month’s Caribbean Amateur Golf Association championships.
Proverbs, regarded as a player for the future and the experienced Clarke, married to a Barbadian, are the new faces in the Hoerman Cup team for the August 5th to 9th event in the Cayman Islands.
Both players had very promising scores in the recent trials and Beacon Insurance Barbados open tournament. Additionally, Proverbs was second in the boy’s 14 to 16 years category at the recent Caribbean junior championships at Moka, Trinidad and Tobago.

Proverbs, 15, finished with 186, three shots over 45 holes in the rain-affected event.
James Johnson, playing his first Hoerman Cup since injury in a major road accident last year, returns to the team as a vital link, while Carlsen Leacock and Julian Jordan retained their places to add experience.

Johnson won the Men’s championship flight in the recent 25th Beacon Insurance Barbados Open, his third in a row.
Judd Cozier was named as reserve.
Two-times Seniors champions Ricky Skeete and Robert Piggott, who were recently honoured by the Barbados Golf Association for their contributions to the sport, will be aiming for a three-peat of wins.
Former Barbados representative and team manager Richie Alleyne, returns to join BGA president Birchmore Griffith as the Super Seniors line-up.

Billy Tempro and Scott Foster were named for the Mid-Amateurs competition while a women’s team, absent from last year’s tournament, has been selected for the Cayman Islands. It comprises Jaimie Hole, Julia Stephenson and Lynn de Cambra McCleod.
