Harris Paints golf this Sunday
The Harris Paints Golf Classic, which had to be re-scheduled because of last weekend’s inclement weather, will now be held this Sunday at the Barbados Golf Club (BGC) course.
Simon Proverbs, the 15 year-old who made his debut at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in Cayman Islands recently, will be among the players vying for the overall trophy and attractive prize of a trip and entry fee to next year’s Trinidad and Tobago Open.
Juniors with a seven handicap or less have free entry to this weekend’s tournament.
The Classic, played in Stableford format with two flights, and separate prizes for Seniors and the top junior, continues to be one of the more popular events on the calendar of the Barbados Golf Association (BGA).
It attracts some of the best golfers and provides those who play only for the fun to have a competitive chance of becoming a winner.
"It will be extremely interesting to see the extent to which junior golfers seize this opportunity to establish their credentials. As a long-standing sponsor of sports, Harris Paints is particularly keen to see new talent emerging in golf," said Harris Paints’ General Manager Cliff Nolan.
Proverbs was one of the better performers on the Hoerman Cup team.
Carlsen Leacock, a member of the team, is also expected to be competing Sunday.
The first flight is for players with handicaps of nine or less and there is second flight for the 10 handicap or more golfers. The maximum handicaps are 24 for men and 28 for women.
