Philip Weekes is the overall champion in the annual Harris Paints Golf Classic.
Weekes, a student of the Barbados Community College, came good at Barbados Golf Club Sunday to accumulate 42 Stableford points.

Playing off a 13 handicap, he edged out Trinidadian Riaz Seecharan, a law student at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

Like Weekes, an infrequent player concentrating on his studies, Seecharan compiled 40 points in the Men’s First Flight category to win on the countback from Livy Hunte, who also collected 40 points.

The Barbadian won the overall title by virtue of wins in the men’s First Flight and the Juniors division.

The Men’s Championship Flight was another keen contest with Glyne Skeete, who utilised his familiarity as a member of staff at the Durrants golf course to good effect, claiming the top prize.

Skeete put together 40 points in a field which included Carlsen Leacock and Orville Alleyne.
But it was a former Harris Paints winner, Cardie Burnett, who was the biggest challenge for the bearded Skeete. Burnett was the narrow loser with 39 points.

Roger Bostic was third with 38 points.
Robin Johnson (37 points) prevailed on a day of ideal weather to win the Seniors prize, with Peter Griffith (36 points) doing well to get home for second place.

Newly-appointed Regional Marketing Manager for Harris Paints, Sharron Alleyne, presented the prizes.

Among Weekes’ prizes is the airfare and entry fee for this year’s St. Lucia Open.
