Jones, Lane win BGA hamper

Tracy Jones and Eric Lane won the Barbados Golf Association’s (BGA’s) New Year’s Hamper tournament by a convincing four points Saturday.
Jeffrey Belgrave, the 2008 winner of the Rockley Christmas tournament, teamed up with his wife, Zerina, to pool 53.5 points in the two-ball Scramble event.
But despite their considerable effort they could not match the consistency of Jones and Lane.
The Belgrave husband and wife were one of four similar pairings to finish in the top 10 and receive hampers for their stirling achievements in the very keenly-contested competition.
One such pair was John and Jan Crosthwaite who were third with 54.5 points. Other husband and wife pairs carrying off hampers were Gail and David Fields who were seventh with 56 points and Andrew and Ami Guilfoyle, who placed 10th with 56.5 points.
Lawyer Andrew Thornhill and Curtis Johnson teamed up to be fourth with 55.5 points, half a point less than Francis Farrier and Damien Wilfred.
The father and son pair of Michael and Jerry Date came sixth with 56 points. Harriet Linton and Peggy Richinson were the only all female partners to make it to winners’ row, coming eighth with 56 points.
All tied scores were broken by the count-back rule.
The other winners were ninth-placed Mark Evelyn and Lennox Bourne who bagged 56.5 points.
Several top players, including Carlsen Leacock, Ricky Skeete, Simon Proverbs and Judd Cozier , showcased their talents in a tournament which was dominated by Rockley members and favoured high handicap golfers.
