Skeete, Piggott excell

Ricky Skeete and Robert Piggott lead in the Seniors division for the second day running at the 53rd Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in the Turks and Caicos Islands Thursday.

The former Caribbean champions in this category reeled off another one under par to lead the field going into the final day by four strokes. Turks & Caicos, enjoying home course advantage, improved on the second day with level par, but it would appear that this championship is well within reach of the Bajans.

Skeete, a former Barbados cricketer and sports coach and the evergreen Piggott, who dominated the game in his heyday, are a difficult pairing to beat when they are in full swing and combining well. Puerto Rico (third) and Jamaica (fourth) should be fighting for runners-up places on the final day.

Elsewhere, the Bajans are not faring well, although there are notable improvements in some scores. Sean Edey and James Johnson continue to shoulder the team in the Hoerman Cup with scores Thursday of 73 and 77 respectively, while Marcus Clarke showed improvement with 75, the second best score for his team.

Teenager Simon Proverbs and Scott Foster both returned a score of 81 as the Bajans are fourth with Puerto Rico positioned to win.

Judd Cozier and Thomas Harris, playing their first regional Mid Amateurs competition as a team, improved on their first day score of 74 with an even par but the Super Seniors line-up of Birchmore Griffith and Richie Alleyne continue to struggle with a meagre improvement of 78.
Barbados is not fielding a women’s team this year.
