Gardiner and Sandeman carry of the coveted 2009 Presidents Putter.

James Gardiner and Andrew Sandeman battled their way to the top spot from a field of 88 players to carry of the coveted 2009 Presidents Putter at Royal Westmoreland on Sunday. The Putter was completely reconfigured to become one of the most prestigious events on the BGA’s calendar. James and Andrew playing in the 2 ball better ball format posted a net 64, with James himself narrowly missing a hole-in-one at No. 7 by 2 inches.

Elvis Medford, a cricketer of some merit and his accomplished partner Otis Gibson carded a 65 to secure second spot. Neither partner would take credit for the superb performance, playing at handicaps 2 and 7 respectively. Judd Cozier, who has become a standard fixture at the podium along with another cricketing great Nolan Clarke netted 67 to secure third spot. Cricket now appears to be a prerequisite to the great game of golf.

The President, Birchmore Griffith gave compliments to Royal Westmoreland for presenting a well prepared course and reports that he was very pleased and excited that the new tournament format has attracted some key players along with invited guest who maintained a high level of camaraderie throughout the tournament.
